Hockey

Abbotsholme School is proud to support its pupils competing in hockey at junior national and county levels, as well as those of varying skill level.

Our young hockey players enjoy a training programme dedicated to enhancing their hockey skills, along with expert coaching and a series of competitive fixtures to test their abilities.

At Abbotsholme School, pupils can compete in hockey matches against other schools on Wednesday afternoons, while those not in a squad can play during games and enrichment multiple times a week. Our young hockey players train and compete on the school’s AstroTurf, as well as having access to our indoor sports hall, where hockey sessions are open to everyone.

Coaching

Our hockey players train five times a week during the autumn and spring terms, competing in fixtures against local schools. Hockey training at Abbotsholme School is held on our state-of-the-art AstroTurf, which is recognised as a leading facility across the Midlands, which is also used by numerous other schools and clubs as their preferred training venue. Our pupils train in group sessions led by our experienced hockey coach, Kevin Heath. With over six years of coaching at Abbotsholme and 22 years of experience overall, Kevin has an impressive coaching background, including running the England Hockey Talent Academy and a range of leading clubs across the Midlands and North-West.

Pathways

Abbotsholme School maintains strong links with Staffordshire County, where many of our pupils play hockey outside of school. Our dedication to the sport and exceptional coaching creates outstanding opportunities for aspiring hockey players, with many of our pupils progressing to represent the county.
