History of Equestrianism

Horses have been a part of life at Abbotsholme since it opened in 1889, serving various roles, such as agriculture, estate maintenance and transportation. While the school’s original curriculum did not include equestrian, horse riding was often one of the recreational activities enjoyed by the pupils.

Equestrianism was later introduced to the Abbotsholme School curriculum in 1979 when the school’s first arena was built. Since then, equestrianism has thrived at Abbotsholme, leading to our school's recognition as one of UK’s leading schools in equestrian.

Since 1998, our equestrian centre has proudly maintained its status as a British Horse Society approved facility, continuously providing our pupils with the very best in estate and equestrian education.
